Kev Coghlan
Kevin Coghlan’s father helped the 11-year-old Scotsman start racing minimotos and Coghlan was an instant sensation, winning 22 straight races in his debut season to claim a Scottish title.
So obvious was his talent that Coghlan quickly headed south of the border to pursue his career and again he was immediately successful, winning a British minimoto crown in 2001 and the prestigious Superteen title in 2004. When he was 15 he graduated to 125 GP bikes and was chosen to contest the MotoGP Academy events in Spain in 2005 and 2006. He did well enough in the series to get a 250 GP ride for 2007, but when that deal fell through he returned to the British 125 series, before taking the decision to move to production-based racing for 2008, contesting the So Spanish Supersport series. Once again Coghlan was immediately competitive, finishing the year second overall and winning the title in 2009.
Last year he continued racing in Spain and made his Moto2 world debut as a wild card rider at several events
